Abstract: Culturally significant information relating to identified areas.
Statement: A1 maps of area of interest printed including ortho-photography and CRS parcel boundaries. Informants drew information directly onto maps with assistance from Te Rangahau o Ngäti Whanaunga researchers. Modified maps then scanned and geo-registered to allow these to be opened in GIS, and hand drawn information digitised manually using MapInfo. The data is stored within Waikato Regional Council’s Oracle database, and available for use in Intergraph GeoMedia. Contract documents for production of the data are: EWDOCS-#1267018-v1-Te_Rangahau_o_Ngati_Whanaunga_Heritage_Mapping_-_Whitianga__Whangapoua.DOC EWDOCS#1266150-v1-Te_Rangahau_o_Ngati_Whanaunga_Heritage_Mapping_-_Harataunga__Manaia_.doc EWDOCS #153418 Te Rangahau o Ngäti Whanaunga Heritage mapping - Thames , Kopu.doc The objective of the project was to record in confidential file (i.e. a file with restricted access provisions) all known sites of significance (e.g kaimoana areas, waahi tapu, native flora and fauna, anchorages, sites of significant happenings) in and around Whitianga and Whangapoua. The purpose for undertaking the project is to ensure that: 1) The knowledge of these sites is preserved; 2) That the sites are afforded protection or provided for under the various planning instruments such as district, regional and coastal plans; 3) That the sites are also afforded protection or provided for under the overarching legislation e.g. Resource Management Act (1991).
Other Information: Attribute information provided by the tribal spokesperson named – and should be considered accurate. All standards for attribute data as per contracts #1266150, #1267018 and #1538418 have been adhered to.
