Riparian Characteristics Survey (Catchment) Data

File ID: 78258894-A9A6-43B7-9F78-046CF9B9944A
Hierarchy Level: dataset
Abstract: Survey, Site Detail and Photo data points for the Riparian Characteristics Survey (Catchment) undertaken with hand held PC.
Statement: The RCSC GIS datasets form part of a large Riparian Characteristics Survey for both individual catchments and at a Regional scale. Data for the RCSC is collected as part of an ongoing survey beginning November 2003. As more survey’s occur more data will be added to the existing GIS features. The data is available for internal use by WRC. A summary of the data is available in WRC technical reports.

Hierarchy Level: feature Hierarchy Level Name:feature of Riparian Characteristics Survey (Catchment) Data
Abstract: Riparian Characteristics Survey Photo's.
Statement: All point features for the RCSC dataset have been captured using CRUX II / BT GPS or a Trimble GPS Pathfinder XC GPS Card (Sirf Star III) and ArcPad. The GPS accuracy of the CRUX II / BT GPS is stated as 10m Circular Error Probable (CEP). A CEP is the radius of a circle, centered on the true location, within which fifty percent of horizontal positioning solutions fall. Influencing factors that may decrease horizontal accuracy are poor satellite geometry, multi-path signals, atmospheric delay (including heavy cloud cover), path blockages (tall buildings and trees, steep gullies). In general the GPS will report a relative level of accuracy based on position and availability of satellites, which is available to view when collecting data. In summary this means that theoretically 50% of recordings are within 10m of true location, and practically most of these are a lot closer. The surveyed stream segments that make up the RCSC_SURVEY_SUMMARY GIS feature have been digitised from Waikato Regional Council’s WRAPS digital aerial photography (see EWDOCS# 881411). Data for the RCSC is collected as part of an ongoing survey beginning November 2003. As more survey’s occur more data will be added to the existing GIS features. The year of any particular survey can be determined by the last two digits of the SAMPLE_ID attribute e.g. 04 indicates the survey was done in 2004. The RCSC datasets are constantly updated as new surveys are undertaken. The raw point data for the RCSC was collected in the field by Waikato Regional Council. The field collection process uses ArcPad technology and GPS. Locations are recorded using the GPS and attributes are noted using set forms and data entry options. Attribute data includes length along survey recorded using a measuring wheel. Data was then processed in-house to create the five GIS features as listed above. For further details on the processing methods employed refer to EWDOCS#930480, 935220, 1154341, 1319418 and Task Doc EWDOCS#1483904 (May 2009).
Other Information: Spatial accuracy of the point data is as specified by the GPS manufacturer (see above). Attributes are accurate as collected by Waikato Regional Council staff. Completeness: Data is complete for the surveys undertaken. Data is stored a points GIS feature with attributes. Data is stored in Oracle Spatial as tables with a GEOMETRY column.
