Hierarchy Level: dataset
Abstract: Data set of cycle trails and related points of interest in the Waikato region.
Statement: This Data is stored in WRC's corporate GIS System. The cycle trails and points of interest are used in the development of WRC online interactive cycle trails map application, this will be open to the public and uses google maps API – URL to be advised when completed. The purpose of this application is to provide information to the public on cycle trails in the Waikato region. Used in hardcopy maps designed to lobby for new/more cycle trails.

Hierarchy Level: feature Hierarchy Level Name:feature of Cycle Trails - GIS Layer
Abstract: Cycle trails of national significance within the Waikato region.
Statement: The cycle trail GIS layer is divided up based on the names of each cycle trail, and each cycle trail is further broken down into completed and proposed sections. The data was updated in October 2015 to include the attribute "Track Class" to distinguish between walk or cycle trails. A desktop exercise completed by creating intersections with stop banks and changing overlapping areas to "walk". The “proposed” routes are indicative desired lines and are at very early stages of development, with early community engagement in some instances yet to take place. taken place at this stage. Trail trusts tend to have hapū relationships in place for engagement, co-design and/or consultation, vs broader iwi relationships per se.
Other Information: Data was derived from information provided to and by the Policy and Transport team. This data was sourced from a number of charitable trusts involved with the cycle trails and from territorial authorities. Data was supplied in a number of formats including shapefile, KML, PDF and Excel spread sheet. The geometries of the cycle trail and cycle trail point of interest GIS layers were derived from either supplied shapefiles, supplied KML files or carrying out in-house digitising via the use of topo50 maps and orthophoto images (WRAPS 2007). The geometry of Te Araroa was derived from a supplied shapefile (Te Araroa TrustM). Therefore, the positional accuracy of this data set is varied and difficult to define, but it is highly dependant on the accuracy of the supplied/source data. The data set has been compared to topo50 maps and orthophoto images (WRAPS 2007).
