| Statement: |
The Waihou-Piako and Lower Waikato catchments contain the region’s most significant flood protection and land drainage assets. The ratepayers in these areas pay the most for these assets.
To help us target our flood protection and land drainage work programmes for these areas, the council has recently established two flood protection and two land drainage advisory subcommittees.
The subcommitees will comprise of Waikato regional councillors, iwi, landowner, territorial authority and key stakeholder/landowner appointees, and they will advise council’s River and Catchment Management Committee.
Appointments will be made every three years to coincide with the council triennial elections. However, this term will be shorter due to the elections having been held last year.
