Hierarchy Level: dataset
Abstract: Estuary and catchment boundaries for all Waikato Region estuaries supplied by NIWA.
Statement: The Estuary Catchments layer was derived by NIWA specifically under contract to Waikato Regional Council (refer PCDOCS# 753739). As such Waikato Regional Council retain all intellectual copyright on the data produced (refer to section 11.1 of PCDOCS# 753739). These catchment boundaries were derived and supplied to Waikato Regional Council in July 2002.

Abstract: Catchment boundaries for WRC estuaries.
Statement: Watershed boundaries, ranging from first to seventh order, were created from 30m DEMs derived from from 1:50000 scale contour data (20m) supplied by LINZ. The DEMs were created using TOPOGRID procedures available within Arc/Info. DEMs were then hydrologically corrected and further processed to obtain the watershed. The NZTopo database (1:50,000) coastline has been used to create the coastal edge.
Other Information: Geographic Extent: Waikato Regional Council Regional area Positional Accuracy: Watershed boundaries, ranging from first to seventh order, were created from 30m DEMs derived from1:50000 scale contour data (20m) supplied by LINZ. The DEMs were created using TOPOGRID procedures available within Arc/Info. DEMs were then hydrologically corrected and further processed to obtain the watershed boundaries. The horizontal accuracy of the data will not exceed +/- 22m and the vertical accuracy will not exceed +/- 10m. Catchment boundaries have not been clipped to the Waikato regional boundary. As such they extend past the regional boundary in a number of places, most obviously on the western edge of the Firth of Thames catchment. The NZTopo database (1:50,000) coastline has been used to create the coastal edge. Period and Frequency of Record: Data supplied by NIWA to Waikato Regional Council in July 2002. Data processed by Waikato Regional Council in October 2002 and further in February 2006 in preparation for load into Oracle database. See document PCDOCS# 803327 for detail of processing undertaken by Waikato Regional Council. Data Quality: The horizontal accuracy of the data will not exceed +/- 22m and the vertical accuracy will not exceed +/- 10m. Attribute Accuracy: Catchment names taken from common names for the areas they represent. Area and perimeter values calculated at the time the catchments were created and supplied by NIWA. Completeness: Complete. Logical Consistency: The data is consistently logical within itself – neighbouring catchments share catchment boundaries. These catchment boundaries may or may not align with other catchment boundaries defined and stored within Waikato Regional Council’s GIS – no attempt has been made to check or align boundaries across different datasets. Data Form: Digital vector GIS features. Digital Format: Data stored within Waikato Regional Council’s corporate GIS database. Applications: Various uses including Integrated Catchment Planning. These catchment boundaries were derived and supplied to Waikato Regional Council in July 2002.
