Catchments - Peat Lake - GIS Layer

File ID: B99C08AF-B21B-49EC-8A60-2F3108557FC9
Hierarchy Level: dataset
Abstract: This GIS dataset contains the catchment areas derived for 23 of the lower Waikato Peat Lakes, along with known inlet and outlet drains, and assumed drains between lakes.
Statement: These catchments and associated features derived by WRC as part of as a one off data capture in July 2005. Refer to GIS job request #12470. The dataset is complete for the 23 peat lakes supplied as part of the original request. This data can be used for peat lake management. As part of the original request a series of PDF maps were created to show the catchment boundaries (and inlets, outlets and assumed drains) for each of the lakes. These are saved within EWDOCS and hyperlinked within GIS_ALL.PEAT_LAKE_CATCHMENT under the attribute EWDOCS_LINK. The documents are as follows: 1069641, 1069642, 1069643, 1069644, 1069645, 1069646, 1069647, 1069648, 1069650, 1069651, 1069652, 1069653, 1069654, 1069656, 1069658, 1069659, 1069660 and 1069662. These catchments were derived from aerial photography (WRAPS) and the NZMS260 topographic map series. Due to the flat relief surrounding many of these lakes the catchment boundaries are indicative only. They are not survey accurate catchment boundaries. The drain features were captured from the "Status of the Waipa peat lakes in 1997 with recommendations for restoration and sustainable management / Thompson, Keith ; Greenwood, John [WRC library ref 333.918153 THO]". These were taken as is. No attempt was made to check the validity of these drains. These catchment boundaries and drain information should be treated as indicative only. They are not survey accurate boundaries and are subjective particularly in areas of flat relief. Neighbouring catchment boundaries are topologically correct. The attributes supplied are accurate and completed at the time of data creation. Abstract: Peat lake catchment areas for 23 of the Waikato Peat Lakes.
Statement: These particular peat lake catchment boundaries were captured by WRC as part of as a one off data capture in July 2005. Refer to GIS job request #12470. The catchment boundaries were derived using WRAPS aerial photography and the NZMS 260 topographic map series, in conjunction with the work already done in the report "Status of the Waipa peat lakes in 1997 with recommendations for restoration and sustainable management / Thompson, Keith ; Greenwood, John [WRC library ref 333.918153 THO]".
Other Information: As part of the original request a series of PDF maps were created to show the catchment boundaries (and associated features) for each of the lakes. These WRC Documents are hyperlinked within the attribute table GIS_ALL.PEAT_LAKE_CATCHMENT in the column EWDOCS_LINK. Other attributes were accurate at time of data creation. A lidar derived catchment boundary for Areare Catchment is available in S:\GISWork\GIS_Jobs\requests_24000_24499\24155_LiDAR_data_for_Lake_Areare\24155_LiDAR data for Lake Areare.mdb
