Abstract: Waikato Region Airsheds are areas gazetted pursuant to the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards Relating to Certain Air Pollutants, Dioxins and Other Toxics) Regulations 2004. This is an MFE requirement and identifies areas for the purpose of air quality management. Survey Office (SO) plans of each area have been registered with LINZ.
Statement: There are 20 NES Airsheds in the Waikato Regional Council region generally following cadastral parcel or natural boundaries in the following areas: Cambridge, Hamilton, Huntly, Matamata, Morrinsville, Ngaruawahia, Otorohanga, Paeroa, Putaruru, Taupo, Te Aroha, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, Thames, Tokoroa, Tuakau, Turangi, Waihi, Whangamata and Whitianga. The remaining area of the Waikato Region is also defined as an airshed, however a map is not required to be gazetted for this “Rest of Region” airshed.

Abstract: Waikato Region Airsheds are areas gazetted pursuant to the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards Relating to Certain Air Pollutants, Dioxins and Other Toxics) Regulations 2004.
Statement: Waikato Regional Council will use the maps for air quality management. Industry and other stakeholders will use the maps for identifying site positions with respect to airshed boundaries. MfE will use the maps when identifying airsheds for national air quality reporting purposes.
Other Information: Positional accuracy is as per the LINZ specifications for their Core Record System (CRS) parcel boundaries. The Airsheds were defined and refined during 2006. They are final as gazetted and shown on the SO plans until MFE requires changes. Linework follows the LINZ CRS parcel and natural boundaries, so is as accurate as specified in their metadata. There may be ‘shifts’ in the parcel boundaries from time to time. This will affect the positional relativity between the Airsheds and the parcel boundaries. All attributes verified and correct. Airsheds are over specific towns within the Waikato Region. The remaining area of the Waikato Region is also defined as an airshed, however a map is not required to be gazetted for this “Rest of Region” airshed. Data aquisition method(s) are recorded in DOCS #1027945. Logical Consistency: Logical consistency of data is ensured through a two step polygon topology generation process: Parcelisation creates topologically correct network structures by splitting lines at every line intersection; generating a system node at every intersection and correcting overshot or undershot digitised lines. Polygon Formation where topological relationships between boundary segments and centroids are formed. Several factors must apply before topology can be created. Each defined polygon must contain a centroid. A system node must exist at the intersection point of two or more line features, i.e. parcelisation completed. All boundary line features of a polygon and the centroid must be defined as being in the same network. The boundary line feature must connect end to end, such that no 'holes' exist in the polygon boundary. Two line features cannot leave or enter a system node exactly at the same angle; ie. There can be no duplicate features. Errors in topological structuring are reported and the process is cycled through until a clean topological structure is generated ensuring logical consistency of data. Data Form: Spatial Digital Data. Data is stored in WRC’s Oracle Spatial database. Digital Format: The data is stored in WRC’s Oracle Spatial Database and can be accessed using Geomedia, or other tools. Applications: Waikato Regional Council will use the maps for air quality management. Industry and other stakeholders will use the maps for identifying site positions with respect to airshed boundaries. MfE will use the maps when identifying airsheds for national air quality reporting purposes. Data Status: Complete at time of LINZ Gazettal – November 2006.
