Aerial Photography - Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

File ID: AEA17F1A-B30F-4BF4-B2E8-696D4A528E95
Hierarchy Level: dataset
Abstract: UAV Aerial photography provided to council by contractors.
Statement: UAV are now routinely used for collecting aerial imagery and creating digital elevation models (DEM). Lightweight thermal sensors provide another payload option for collection of high resolution thermal aerial photos. This technology promises rapid, safe and cost-effective survey of thermal areas, often present in inaccessible or dangerous terrain.

Abstract: GIS datasets relevant to WRC’s ongoing thermal area monitoring programme: high-resolution thermal infrared imagery plus soil shallow temperature and CO2 flux measurements. High-resolution visible orthophoto and digital surface model (DSM) for the Karapiti thermal area. Newly identified thermal features from thermal imagery at Broadlands Road
Statement: Data is provided for Mark Harvey’s PhD study areas at Wairakei, Broadlands Rd (Tauhara) and for Opaheke (Reporoa). The data will be accompanied by a report as was done for the Broadlands Rd area (Figure to Harvey Geoscience Report - GIS datasets for thermal areas at Broadlands Road, 27 November 2017). UAV are now routinely used for collecting aerial imagery and creating digital elevation models (DEM). Lightweight thermal sensors provide another payload option for collection of high resolution thermal aerial photos. This technology promises rapid, safe and cost-effective survey of thermal areas, often present in inaccessible or dangerous terrain.
Other Information: Accompanying report provides details: - data collection and processing methods (for repeat surveying) - data structure (ease of access within ArcMap) - summary data for maps (i.e. date and ambient temperature of flights, resolution, pixel size), and summary statistics for heat flow and CO2 flow (baseline for future monitoring) - summary report relevant to ongoing HSE and monitoring.
