WISKi - River Flow, Suspended Sediment and Water Temperature

Abstract:	Flow readings, suspended sediment yields and surface water temperatures for rivers and streams in the Waikato region. This data is collected to characterise river discharge, water quality, and catchment erosion.
Statement:	All sites with flow data have had regular manual flow gaugings to build a level/flow relationship (rating). Using the rating, flow data is derived from water levels. Automatic stage (water level) readings and Stage-Discharge Ratings are regularly maintained for around 50 sites in the region with historical data available at additional locations. All suspended sediment samples are collected manually and yields calculated using discharge. Suspended sediment yields over a range of flow conditions are available for 23 sites. Water temperature is recorded at 13 of the Stage/Flow recording stations. It is also monitored seasonally (December-March) for Clean Streams Monitoring and Catchment Environment Monitoring programs at 13 sites. Previous Data Set IDs: 5030, 5123, 5125.

Abstract:	Table of Flow readings, suspended sediment yields and surface water temperatures for rivers and streams in the Waikato region
Statement:	Data Acquisition Method(s): Discharge has usually been measured indirectly using a current meter and the cross sectional area of the channel. The required accuracy of the rating determines the gauging frequency (Buchanan 2001). Suspended sediments are collected with three equal sub-samples across the channel (Buchanan 2001). Water Temperature is measured as far into the channel as possible. Automatic stations make recordings as frequently as every five minutes (Williams, 1997).
