Abstract: Total soil concentrations (background levels) of copper, lead, zinc and free iron (oxides) in the Waikato Region.
Statement: This GIS dataset consists of polygons based on the Land Resource Inventory (LRI) for the Waikato Region with recorded levels of lead, zinc, copper and iron in mg/kg (oven-dry weight). Refer to WRC Document #883314 for the associated Draft Report "Total soil concentrations (background levels) of copper, lead, and zinc, and free iron (oxides) in the Waikato Region". This information was commissioned by WRC from Manaaki Whenua-Landcare Research in February 2004. The Data can be used for finding out about background levels of copper, lead, zinc and free iron (oxides) in the Waikato Region.

Abstract: Total soil concentrations (background levels) of copper, lead, zinc and free iron (oxides) in the Waikato Region.
Statement: Using the NZLRI soils of the Waikato Region were aggregated based upon Soil Orders. Heavy metal concentrations for the three soil depth intervals (0 – 7.5 cm, 7.5 – 40 cm and 40 – 100 cm) were extracted from the National Soils Database held by Landcare Research. Where no information was available within the Waikato Region for a particular soil, information was drawn from outside the Region. See the NZ LRI metadata for information about the date of polygon collection. See information about the National Soils Database held by Landcare Research for information about date of data collection (National Soil Database Utility). The data has some varying levels of quality. See the associated report (EWDOCS# 883314) for further information. The dataset is complete for the Waikato Region. Note that in some areas there was no input data available so attributes are listed as “nodata”. This dataset can be used with the NZ Land Resource Inventory (LRI). A copy is stored in WRC’s GIS as GIS_ALL.LAND_RESOURCE_INVENTORY. Data form is digital and is stored in Waikato Regional Council’s Oracle Spatial database. It can be accessed via WRC's GIS.
