| Abstract: |
This feature presents the JMA ZONES where iwi have Joint Management Agreements (JMA) with Waikato Regional Council. Actual boundaries may in part or whole, be derived from Statutory Acknowledgment areas or co-governance agreement areas as defined in the Te Arawhiti OTS dataset, but are in some instances, such as Maniapoto's JMA, be further modified according to outcomes of direct negotiations between iwi and WRC when defining the JMA agreement. The areas defined here are those represented in the signed JMA documents. |

Five iwi have a documented JMA with WRC:
Raukawa,
Te Arawa River Iwi Trust,
Waikato-Tainui,
Maniapoto,
Tuwharetoa.
The JMA ZONES outline areas where WRC and iwi share a vested interest, and therefore, take a joint approach in managing the environment of that area. All JMA ZONES were agreed by both the iwi concerned and WRC. All currently signed JMA are present. Pare Hauraki may sign a JMA in the near future in which case they will be added to this data set if and when they enter a JMA with the Council.

Waikato-Tainui's JMA ZONE equates to the Waikato River (Area A) - SO 409144 plan - co-management redress land area as defined in the OTS_Te Arawhiti dataset.
Raukawa's JMA ZONE equates to the combined geometry of Waikato River (Area B)and Wharepūhunga and Korakonui sub-catchment (Area E) - SO 409144 plan - Co-Governance and Co-Management redress land areas as defined in the OTS_Te Arawhiti dataset.
Maniapoto's JMA ZONE equates in part to Waipa River (Area C) - SO 409144 plan - Co-Governance and Co-Management redress land areas as defined in the OTS_Te Arawhiti dataset, but includes an extension northward through the Waipa Rvier catchment and including a length of the river margin proper.
Ngāti Tuwharetoa's JMA ZONE is defined in 3 different scheduled areas. Schedule 1 equates to their Statutory Acknowledgement redress land of plan number OTS-575-46; Schedule 2 refers to the geometry of Waikato River (Area B) - SO 409144 plan - co-management redress land area as defined in the OTS_Te Arawhiti dataset. Schedule 3 relates to the entire Taupo lake catchment and is part of the Taupo Waters agreement (not represented in OTS dataset)
Te Arawa River Iwi Trust JMA ZONE was digitised in-house by GIS staff at the Council and comprises an irregularly shaped areas at the eastern half of the Te Arawa River iwi (Waikato River) - Waikato River (Area B)- SO 409144 plan - co-management redress land area. |
