Hierarchy Level: |
dataset |
Abstract: |
Iwi, Hapu and other grouping boundaries within the Waikato Region. These boundaries are provided as a resource not intended to be used to diminish or challenge Mana Whenua status, but to assist Council maintain its inclusive approach to work effectively with Tangata Whenua. |
Statement: |
Boundaries originally drawn as directed by WRC’s Iwi Liaison Officer at the time of data capture (Chris Koroheke). Positional accuracy will therefore be determined by the quality of his information and they may be updated at irregular intervals as directed by the Iwi Liaison team.
Users of the data should be mindful that actual tribal boundaries are very difficult to ascertain as there will always be overlapping interests of two or more Tangata Whenua groups and this is a very sensitive issue for Maori. This data can be used in conjunction with GIS_ALL.IWI_MARAE_IRIS data.
