Abstract: Vegetation and site characteristics were recorded in 177 randomly-placed temporary plots at 38 sites on 15 geothermal fields in the Taupō Volcanic Zone
Statement: Quantitative cover estimates of each species in standard height tiers, all vascular species present, including invasive weeds, as well as prominent bryophytes and lichens, physical parameters such as soil temperature at 10 cm depth (where possible), slope, altitude and aspect, and human and introduced mammal impacts. Soil samples were collected (where possible) for standard soil chemistry analyses. Data were entered into the National Vegetation Survey Databank (NVS).
Other Information: No GIS data were generated in association with this project. Plot locations were obtained by GPS Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and recorded on field plot sheets. Positional accuracy ±2–10 m. Plot sample locations were stratified by broad vegetation types defined by Wildland Consultants 2005 and 2011. 13 geothermal sites were not sampled due to access restrictions. Field recorded data was entered into NVS and standard validation procedures used to identify errors such as incorrect recording of species names or missing data.
