Abstract:	A data set resulting from a computerised ticket issuing system that collects details about passengers travelling on buses in Hamilton, Huntly, Paeroa, and Raglan.
Statement:	The system records the time and date of ticket issue, location, route, direction, type of ticket issued, and special conditions applying to the ticket. This system is installed on buses servicing contracted routes in Hamilton, Huntly, Paeroa, and Raglan. The information is used to improve the efficiency of public transport in the Waikato region. Data is collected for all bus stops in Hamilton City, Huntly, Paeroa and Raglan. The Computerised Ticket Issuing system has been installed at Hamilton (Hamilton City and Bayline LTD Buses) since May 1992, Huntly (Simpson Buses) since June 1994, Paeroa (Turley/Murphy Motors) since July 1991, and Raglan (Pavlovich and Sons) since January 1995. This data can be used for planning of bus routes, bus stops/shelters/locations, regional passenger transport subcommittee and regional land transport committee decisions, Regional Passenger Transport Plan, Annual Regional Land Transport Strategy Report, Regional Land Transport Strategy. Associated with this system is the smart cards system, which reduces the need to handle cash. Smart card will edit names, fares, and allow cards to be hot listed. There are plans for the data to be sent to Waikato Regional Council via email systems.

Abstract:	Bus passenger loading data stored in binary format.
Statement:	Waikato Regional Council contracts out bus routes to private companies. Buses owned by these companies have been equipped with the Computerised Ticket Issuing system. The data collected is regularly down loaded and sent to Waikato Regional Council on disk for monthly summary and analysis. The data is loaded into Excel spreadsheets for manipulation, and then imported into GIS for further analysis and presentation.
Other Information:	Exact positional positioning. Data is assigned a unique number that is associated with a particular bus stop. Bus stops are located on a GIS layer. The quality of this data is unknown. The data covers all passengers on all bus routes in these areas. NZTM Grid Co-ordinates are defined by bus routes.Passenger loading data is used in conjunction with digital images of the roading network and census data provided by LINZ. Data form: Digital format, reports (monthly) tables, maps, charts. Digital format is stored in a binary format that integrates with standard menu driven software. Data can also be loaded as an ASCII dump. In Hamilton about 50 K of data is collected every day. The data is owned and maintained by Waikato Regional Council. It is duplicated in hard copy reports and on floppy disks.
