Abstract: |
This dataset is a group of discrete layers derived from the "LiDAR - 2021 - Regional PGF" dataset. The specification of this product is not repeated here, only specific parameters relating to the creation of the derivatives. For overarching lidar specification see "LiDAR - 2021 - Regional PGF" or document 30156278 for processing summary. We are house the layer here instead of with the main dataset so its clear that these layers are discrete products of the raw lidar and are subject tho their own dilution of precision (and augmentation) during processing. |

Abstract: |
This lidar DEM integrates the Lidar 2021 Regional PGF dataset DEM (which has some gaps in coverage) the historical and third part DEMs to fill the gaps. The result is a single continuous DEM with the Regional Council territorial boundary. See Other Dataset Information for constituent DEM datasets. |
Statement: |
The accuracy of the compiled DEM is limited to the accuracy of the constituent DEM products. These are listed in the Other Dataset Information section. |
Other Information: |
Lidar 2021 regional PGF dataset (DEM, DSM and Point Cloud) + Earlier lidar acquisitions (2017-2019 capture dates) : breakdown as follows.
Lidar 2021 Regional PGF (vertical accuracy 0.1m @68%)- note that 0.2m @ 95% CL is an equivlnt measure.
Lidar 2019 Hamilton (vertical accuracy 2.9cm @68%)
Lidar 2017-2109 Thames-Paeroa (vertical accuracy 3.7cm @68%)
Lidar 2018 Flood hazards (vertical accuracy 4.5cm @68%)
Lidar 2019 Piako (vertical accuracy 3.3cm @68%)
Auckland Council section top strip of region (vertical accuracy 4.0 cm @68%)
BOPRC section east strip of region (vertical accuracy 5.0cm @68%)
Note that vertical accuracy refers to the measure error after comparing lidar height measure *on open unvegetated flat ground* compared to independent test-points. Vegetated ground level have additional error due to vegetation interference with the lidar laser penetration.
The constituent layers are blended with a custom blending algorithm using software Manifold 9 which interpolates the transitional difference in DEMs at the boundary based on a 20m 'overlap' margin. The blend margin aims to minimise elevation steps between datasets captured at different times (largely due to vegetation and calibration differences) - in this blend zone the constituent DEM errors may combine. The blend algorithm was processed in a way to favor Waikato PGF 2021 LiDAR heights over the adjacent LiDAR heights in the 20m seam.

|
Data Use Limits : |
Cartographic and lite engineering use only, factoring the accuracy limitations listed below. Note that lidar ground level accuracy is compromised where matted vegetation exists on the ground (e.g., grass thatch/weeds)- thick vegetation could erode vertical accuracy by up to 0.5m. |

Abstract: |
BLEND V3 5M SINKS OUTLINE. This layer defines sink areas within the DEM which were then converted to a polygon layer representing the outer extent of the topographic sink areas. This layer was created specifically for wetland identification work. |
Statement: |
This is another layer derived from the regional 5m blended DEM base and hence should be considered indicative only, especially in areas outside the current extent of WRC LiDAR data holdings (typically hill country). It was created in Manifold 9 GIS by subtracting the DEM from a version of the DEM with enclosed surface hollows (sinks) filled to their spill point. This layer is created by a GIS function as a component of generating surface water catchments and drainage lines. The derived grid isolates the sink areas within the DEM which were then converted to a polygon layer representing the outer extent of the sinks. This layer was finally filtered to remove those sinks below a nominal size of 500 square meters. |
